A video showing a car stuck on the hinged part of the bridge is going viral on the internet. The incident happened in October 2021 on the Ocean Avenue Bridge in Lantana, Florida when a Honda Accord crossing the bridge got stuck on the hinged part. The driver appears to have escaped without injury.
We can see from the video that the front wheels of the car are on the deck, but the front bumper is on the fixed road. The sedan stalled as the bridge began to rise, and when the bridge opened, the front wheel dropped into the gap, making it impossible to maneuver the vehicle.
When the bridge pushed the car over the gap, its driver walked away from the vehicle while on the phone, possibly trying to halt the bridge. After the bridge completely came down, the driver drove away in his car.
Looking at the pictures, it can be assumed that the front of the car was damaged, although at least the driver managed to get away without injury. In his defence, the bridge operator, who was subsequently dismissed, claimed that he didn't notice the car entering the bridge when it was closed.
