A Mexican woman who frequented the gym was crushed to death after losing her balance while lifting 400 pounds (about 181 kg) of weight. The horrific accident was caught on CCTV camera set up in the gymnasium, the Mirror reported. The unidentified woman, believed to be between 35 and 40, attempted to lift the huge barbell in front of her daughter in the gymnasium in Peralvillo, Cuauhtemocarea of the Mexican capital, Mexico City. Video of the incident which has now gone viral on the internet shows a man, presumably a trainer, adjusting the weight on the device as he gets into position to lift it. However, the weight proved too heavy and the bar fell on her, crushing her neck against the bench, killing her instantly.

The instructor was seen running to help the woman remove the barbell, but missed. Soon two more people in the gym joined in lifting the heavy barbell, but by the time they did, it was too late. The incident is said to have traumatized the woman's daughter and the authorities are providing her with psychological support.

The local state prosecutor conducted an investigation into the incident, after which the gym owner was briefly arrested to confirm the woman's identity. Further investigation is underway.
In a similar weightlifting accident in 2020, a woman dislocated her shoulder and fractured her arm while attempting to perform squat 167kg of weight. Video of the incident showed a woman named Robyn Machado from North Carolina in the United States trying to squat heavy weights on her shoulder. However, when she gets down, the weighted barbell slides back and dislocating his shoulder.
She was then immediately rushed to a local hospital where the doctors performed surgery to install a plate and several screws for holding her shoulder in place. It took Robyn more than two months to recover from the injury.
