The winner will be announced on January 24.
Indian player Ravichandran Ashwin was shortlisted on Tuesday as one of four nominees for the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award.
The 35-year-old reached 52 wickets in eight tests with an average of 16.23 and also contributed 337 runs with the bat at 28.08 with a century during the reporting period.
In addition to Ashwin, England captain Joe Root, New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson and Sri Lankan starter Dimuth Karunaratne were the other nominees for the award, which recognizes outstanding achievement and feats in cricket during the past year.
The winner will be announced on January 24.

“One of India's biggest match winners in the longest format, R Ashwin reaffirmed his authority as one of the world's best spinners in 2021. In addition to his magic with the ball, Ashwin also made invaluable contributions with the bat, ”the ICC said in a statement.
Ashwin started the year on a high, scoring a patient 128 ball 29 against Australia in the Sydney test. His association with Hanuma Vihari helped India achieve a memorable draw that kept the series level at 1-1.
At home against England, Ashwin won the player of the series title after winning 32 wickets in four games at 14.72, while also contributing 189 runs with a bat.
The off-spinner had also picked up four wickets in the ICC World Trials Championship final against New Zealand on seam-friendly wicket in Southampton.
After missing all four tests in England, Ashwin shone bright in the home series against New Zealand, winning another series player of the award after picking up 14 wickets in two matches at 11.36.

The ICC awards will include a total of 13 individual recognitions in total, as well as five Team of the Year announcements for each format in both men's and women's cricket.
Other individual categories include the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for Male Cricketer of the Year and the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for Female Cricketer of the Year.
