The accused, identified as Aumkareshwar Thakur, a resident of New York Township in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, was arrested after admitting that he was a member of a group on Twitter and the idea to defame and troll Muslim women was shared there.

"He had developed the code on GitHub. Access to GitHub was with everyone in the group. He had shared the app on his Twitter account. Photos of Muslim women were uploaded by members of the group," said the Deputy Commissioner of police (IFSO) KPS Malhotra.

Police said Thakur, 26, obtained his BCA from IPS Academy in Indore and joined a group on Twitter by the name of Tradmahasabha in January 2020 using the username @gangescion.

It was during a discussion within the group that the idea to auction Muslim women came up and Thakur created the Sulli Deals app on GitHub.

After discovering that hundreds of Muslim women were listed for "auction" on the mobile app with photos taken without permission and forged, and created a lot of controversy, Thakur deleted the app and their social media accounts.

Although the Sulli Deals case came to light in July last year, but Delhi police have not made any progress on this case so far.

Delhi Police said last week that the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit (IFSCO) received the green light from the Center for Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) proceedings in criminal matters.

However, the breakthrough came after Delhi police arrested Neeraj Bishnoi, 21, the creator of the Bulli Deals app.

During questioning, Bishnoi admitted to police that he was in contact with the people behind the Sulli Deals app.

The engineering student from Assam was sent to police custody for seven days.

Police say Bishnoi, who is very radicalized, admitted to creating the app, but did not show any regret on his actions.

Bishnoi, in October, created a list of women he wanted to smear online on his digital devices, laptops and cellphones. He tracked activists on all social medias and downloaded their photos.

Then he created the app in November and updated it in December.

He also created several Twitter accounts from which similar messages were shared.

Police said the case was very technical in nature. With the help of CERT-In, an analysis of the raw data as well as technical details were carried out and the suspect was identified as being based in Jorhat of Assam.

Shweta Singh, who was arrested by Mumbai Police in Uttarakhand, told police she was in contact and was receiving instructions from Twitter user @ giyu44, who resides in Nepal.

This, according to the police, was one of the several accounts used by Bishnoi.
