A video of a Kerala policeman assaulting a passenger aboard the Maveli Express has gone viral. The incident happened on Monday, January 3. The officer attacked the passenger for traveling in the sleeper class with general ticket.
The incident occurred soon after the Maveli Express traveling from Mangalore to Trivandrum left Kannur station. The policeman who assaulted the man was identified as the Assistant Sub-Inspector of Kannur Railway Station.
The problem arose when images of the policeman slapping and kicking the young man went viral on social media. The man was then kicked out of the sleeper compartment at Vadakara station.

The behavior of the policeman shocked the passengers. They demanded strict action against him. The police officer arrived at the compartment for a routine check and found that the passenger was traveling with a general compartment ticket.
Instead of solving the problem, the policeman assaulted him. The footage was recorded by another passenger in the upper berth during the incident.
Following recent reported atrocities related to the police, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan called a meeting of senior police officials to discuss possible solutions.
Railway SP Chaitra Teresa John will be tasked with taking action against the erring policeman.
