New Delhi: During his visit to the Punjab on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi may have been killed by a drone or telescopic gun, Union Minister of Rural Development  Giriraj Singh said on Friday.

Singh also blamed the Punjab chief minister's office and suggested that there was a high-level intrigue behind the "great security breach" that took place on January 5.

Prime Minister Modi's planned visit to Ferozepur on Wednesday was canceled after protesting farmers blocked the road leading to the town. The PM was on his way from Bathinda airport by road as he was unable to take the helicopter due to bad weather. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs called the Prime Minister's trapping in a flyover "for 15 to 20 minutes" a "major security breach". This has resulted in a blame game between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress, which governs the state.

Several high-ranking BJP leaders and ministers have expressed anger over the alleged violation, and the BJP has also spoken at press conferences on the issue. On Twitter, Singh shared video footage of the Prime Minister's cavalcade stuck on the flyover.

“It was not a coincidence but an intrigue to drown the Prime Minister in the abyss of death. He survived by Mahadev's grace. If there is a proper investigation at the highest level, then this intrigue will be connected not only to the Punjab CM office, but its links will be connected to the top. It looks like he could have been killed with a drone or a telescopic gun, ”Singh said.

“The conspiracy can be gauged by watching the video. How the Prime Minister was trapped on the flyover. The investigation must be conducted properly and none of the conspirators must be spared, ”he said.

The issue of security breaches during the Prime Minister's visit to the Punjab took a political turn with key BJP leaders including Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan offering prayers at various temples across the country for the well-being and long life of Prime Minister Modi.

Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi expressed "regret and pain" over the cancellation of the Prime Minister's visit, but maintained that there had been no breach of security on the part of his government.

The state government has now formed a high-level committee to investigate any flaws.
