Music Composer And Singer Bappi Lahiri Dies Of Obstructive Sleep Apnea At The Age Of 69

Veteran singer-songwriter Bappi Lahiri has died in Mumbai at the age of 69. Known for songs like Bambai Se Aaya Mera Dost, Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re, Raat Baaki Baat Baaki and Yaad Aa Raha Hai, the singer who made disco music popular in India in the 1980s and 1990s expired today at CritiCare Hospital in Mumbai.

Dr Deepak Namjoshi, director of the hospital, told PTI: “Lahiri had been in the hospital for a month and was discharged on Monday. But his health deteriorated on Tuesday and his family called a doctor to visit him. He was brought to the hospital. He had multiple health issues. He died of OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) shortly before midnight.

Bappi Lahiri last appeared on Salman Khan's Bigg Boss 15 to promote his grandson Swastik's new song Baccha Party.

Bappi Lahiri was also hospitalized last year after contracting coronavirus. His spokesperson then said: "Despite the utmost precautions, Mr Bappi Lahiri unfortunately tested positive for covid-19. He is under very well and expert care at Breach Candy Hospital. Bappi dada's family requests to all those who has come into contact with him in the recent past to get tested as a precautionary measure."

However, he was quickly discharged.

Bappi Lahiri has been making waves not only in India but also in Hollywood. Affectionately named Bappi Da, his signature song Jimmy Jimmy Aaja Aaja from Mithun Chakraborty starrer 1982 hit Disco Dancer has featured in 2008 Hollywood film You Don't Mess with the Zohan. His song Jhoom Jhoom Baba was used in the Hindi promotional music video for his film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2

He holds the record for the most songs recorded in one day. Not only that, he also got his name in the Guinness Book of World Record for recording 180 songs in 33.
